4th Annual International Archaeology Day: 300 Miles of Iowa Archaeology

300 Miles of Iowa Archaeology will cover events and activities stretching from the west to east along Interstate-80 from the Western Historic Trails Center in Council Bluffs, to the State Historical Society of Iowa Museum in Des Moines, and on to the University of Iowa campus. Additional events will be held at Effigy Mounds National Monument in Harper's Ferry and potentially on the Iowa State campus in Ames.  

Iowa City:  The Iowa Society of the AIA, Office of the State Archaeologist, the UI Pentacrest Museums, Iowa Archeology Society, and the UI departments of Anthropology, Classics, Religion, and Arts and Art History will team up to present information and hands-on activities about Archaeology to the general public from 1-4 pm. 

Council Bluffs: The Office of the State Archaeologist, the University of Iowa Mobile Museum, and the Western Historic Trails Center are organizing a day full of events!  There will be lectures on ancient technologies, traditional games and atlatl throwing, an open house of the Mobile Museum, and more. Located just off I-80, the Western Historic Trails Center offers nature trails for hiking and biking, beautiful outdoor sculptures, and a fantastic visitor center with exhibits on Native American and early pioneer history.
