A Question of Pacifism or Patriotism: The Amana Society During World War I

Date:

Thursday, April 13, 2017 - 4:00pm to 5:30pm

Location:

Old Capitol Museum

WWI Lecture Series - 1 of 3

Director of the Amana Heritage Society, Jon Childers will be discussing how anti-German sentiment was encountered during World War I. The Amana Society worked diligently to prove an unbroken line of pacifism, which ultimately failed, forcing over thirty Amana boys to serve in the military and cause area residents to send an angry mob to the Amanas with the intention of committing violence against the peaceful colonists.
