Archaeological Site Searches and GIS

Archaeological Site Searches and GIS

The principal activities of the Office of the State Archaeologist Geographic Information Systems (GIS) services include managing the Iowa Site File, which is the master inventory of archaeological sites in Iowa. Specific archaeological site location data are confidential by state code with access limited to professional archaeologists and landowners for their property. The OSA manages I-SitesPro, an online GIS and database for Iowa archaeology that is available to professional archaeologists and I-SitesPublic, which makes section-level counts of recorded archaeological sites available to the general public..

Iowa Site File searches prior to development projects can be done for a fee. For more information, contact Colleen Eck at 319-384-0735
